Parnell Keeps Promise on Public Safety

December 13, 2011, Anchorage, Alaska – Reaffirming his commitment to keep Alaskan families safe, Governor Sean Parnell today announced his budget proposal will include funding for 15 new Village Public Safety Officers (VPSO), a new State Trooper, and funding to stop the epidemic of domestic violence and sexual assault (DVSA) in Alaska. In 2009, Governor Parnell pledged to bring VPSOs and trooper support to villages that have none, and has made good on that promise every year since. Full Story »

December 6, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell announced today that his Fiscal Year 2013 budget proposal will contain funding for increased access to Alaska’s resources to grow economic opportunities for all Alaskans. Full Story

Budget Prioritizes Emergency Preparedness

December 9, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today announced that his Fiscal Year 2013 budget will prioritize disaster and emergency preparedness. The governor’s budget proposal will include $4.9 million for emergency food supplies to be distributed and securely stored in several locations throughout the state. This appropriation, in conjunction with funding provided in last year’s capital budget for emergency power and water purification, will help communities prepare and provide critical emergency services. Full Story »

Budget Funds Scholarship, School Construction

December 8, 2011, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell announced today that his Fiscal Year 2013 budget will provide $8 million in continued support for the Alaska Performance Scholarship, which challenges students to take more rigorous high school courses, and then rewards them with funding to attend Alaska’s universities and postsecondary training programs. Nearly one-third of Alaska’s 2011 high school graduates earned Alaska Performance Scholarships. Full Story »
